Reading List 2019

The end of the year is a time for self-reflection. We dust the last twelve months off of our shoulders, guiltily contemplate the previous years resolutions and then hastily sketch a new batch. This will be the year of the diet. The gym membership. The pinched penny.

For me, this is going to be the year of the reading list. It has been slowly building in the notes of my phone and in the margins of my journal. I figured that now is as good a time as any to address it.

The List

Essential fantasy/fiction

The path of fantasy is well-tread. This list was inspired by a post from Nathan B. Weller
  • The Mistborn Series by Brandon Sanderson
    • Mistborn
    • The Well of Ascension
    • The Hero of Ages
  • Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan
    • The Eye of the World
  • The Gunslinger by Stephen King
  • Dune by Frank Herbert
  • The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss

Light Novels and Manga

Last year I discovered a love for light novels and manga. They act as great plot-driven filler when cooling down from heavier series
  • Bloom Into You by Nio Nakatani (I binged the entire series. It’s adorable. Highly suggest as a great LGBTQ romance or just a great romance in general.)
  • Goblin Slayer by Kumo Kagyu
    • Book 3
    • Book 4
    • Book 5
  • Overlord by Kugane Maruyama
    • Volume 3: The Bloody Valkyrie
    • Volume 4: The Lizardman Heroes
    • Volume 5: The Men of the Kingdom part 1
    • Volume 6: The Men of the Kingdom part 2
    • Volume 7: Invaders of the Great Tomb

General Series

These are books that I just haven’t gotten to yet
  • Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck (Bleak.)
  • Paradise Lost by John Milton
  • Dragonwatch by Brandon Mull
  • Kings of the Wyld by Nicholas Eames
  • Johnathan Strange and Mr. Norell by Susanna Clarke

I will update the list as more books are added to it, and I will come back regularly to cross off the ones that I have read. If I have my sh*t together in 2019, then I will write a review for each and every book on the list. Here’s to resolutions made and broken!
